About BraveHearts Equine Center

Love is Never Rushed; it is Kind and Patient.

Who Are We?

Tucked away in the heart of Kentucky’s Bluegrass Region, BraveHearts Equine Center is an organization that offers a haven for rescued horses and burros. With over 72 years of combined experience, we provide shelter, rehabilitation, and training for equines saved from neglect, abuse, abandonment, and slaughter.

Our Mission

We are an organization whose mission is to rescue equines and give them a second chance at a forever home through rehabilitation and retraining. We primarily focus on saving draft horses and have rescued over 100 horses. The farm is 140 acres and has the capacity to house up to 140 animals on the property.

In time we hope to expand this rescue with more properties in more Cities and States so that the equine community has an answer for unwanted animals and can provide a full life to the many horses and donkeys that find their paths in jeopardy. Currently, we allow equine lovers to adopt or sponsor horses and burros and provide them with the life they deserve.

Our Vision

We strive to create a world where animal abuse and neglect are not tolerated. We work around the clock to provide a safe haven where our rehabilitated horses continue to add value and inspire our communities. We believe our standard of animal care will serve as a benchmark for equine care worldwide and continue to assist horses in need.

Why We Want to Help

We want to save as many horses from neglect as possible. Currently, our focus has mainly been recusing draft horses, namely Belgian horses from Amish farms. Many of these animals end up in kill pens after working fields their entire lives. We believe this powerful passage encompasses why we dedicate our time and effort to saving these beautiful animals.

“The kill pen is full of Belgian draft horses, the powerful, living machinery of Amish farms. . . . [T]he Belgians in this pen are grievously and horrifyingly injured. They have been worked until they literally cannot stand any longer. . . . No matter that the animal has slaved . . . for any number of years, no matter that his swollen, oozing knee is collapsing at every forced step. Just as a broken plow would be sold to the junk man for the metal, these broken animals are sold to the kill-man for meat.”LISA COUTURIER
